Inti Punku (Quechua: “Puerta del Sol”) is located 64 km north of Cusco, in Peru. It is located at a height of 3,886 m.a.s.l. above the town of Cachicata, in the Ollantaytambo district, Urubamba province, in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
From the Cachicata quarries the Incas managed to cut and transport the megalithic rocks that made up their cities, today sources of incredible stories.
This exhilarating and scenic hike takes 2 to 3 hours of climbing depending on your pace, crosses the Urubamba River on an ascending trail that offers panoramic views of the Ollantaytambo Valley, the Vilcanota mountain range, and the snowy Veronica along the way.
As we ascend, the panoramas of the Sacred Valley and the massive mountains open up in an incredible bird’s eye view. We will observe the roads where the stones moved and the many blocks that were left unfinished.
We will also observe the “Chullpas”, or small tomb buildings that were built for the purpose of housing mummies, considered guardian spirits for the people who live and work in the area.
We depart from the city of Cusco (7:00 am) in our private transport to the north of the valley, to go along the road to Ollantaytambo until we reach the town of Cachicata where we will start with our walk until we reach a panoramic view of the snowy Veronica or Wakaywillque.
During our stay we will have breakfast and lunch in the town of Cachicata surrounded by magnificent views of the Ollantaytambo valley and the Vilcanota mountain range.
After lunch (16:00 p.m.) we prepare to return in our private transportation to the city of Cusco.
Estimated time of arrival at the hotel in Cusco: 18:00 p.m.
