Tour Details

Located in the Vilcabamba mountain range, at the foot of the Humantay mountain, is the fascinating lagoon of the same name, at an altitude of 4,200 meters above sea level. and the second highest in the Cusco region, which in recent years has become a destination for hikers visiting southern Peru.

To get to this glacial lagoon, you have to go from the city of Cusco to the town of Soray Pampa, which is located at 3,900 meters above sea level. close to another spectacular snowy Salkantay.

Then, you must take a walk for around 3 hours on a high Andean path where you can see multicolored landscapes where local cultivation areas predominate, harmonizing with the snowy mountains.

As an interesting fact, due to the mysticity of the area, the lagoon is visited by shamans and tourists from all over the world to leave offerings to the Pachamama, a deity that represents Mother Earth in the Inca culture. Through the laying of stones (apachetas), an offering is given to the Pachamama Thanking you for having successfully reached the lagoon, as well as asking you to accompany them on their journey.

According to the inhabitants, the snowy Humantay is the youngest son of the Apu Salkantay, and they would be in charge of rationalizing and distributing the water that falls from its snow to the populations that live on the slopes of these impressive snow-capped mountains
