Located about 3 km from the city of Cusco and with an approximate altitude of 3,700 meters above sea level. the Devil’s Balcony is a place where the ancient Inca road passed until reaching Huchuyqosqo. Its name in Quechua is Chakan which means bridge. In this place you can see a very beautiful small valley where the Chakan river passes through the mountain from which the Devil’s Balcony catches.
An erosion phenomenon that has been taking place for years due to the river water and rain gives this place a unique formation. This balcony was used by the Incas and the current settlers to carry out payment ceremonies or offerings to the sacred spirits.
In the upper part of the hill that houses the balcony you can see Inca walls and looking north you can see a small Inca construction above where offering ceremonies are still being offered today. On the left side of the balcony, on an adjoining hill, you can also see other terrace constructions with little elaborate stones.
There is a water channel in this area that changes its margin, from the right to the left, through the hill that bears the same name as the river (Chakan).
In the area you can see eucalyptus trees and la queuña (tree very resistant to cold and native to the Andes). You can also see birds and beautiful small diverse flowers.
Very close to the Devil’s Balcony you can see a rock carved in the shape of a chacana, with irrefutable evidence of the sacredness of this whole area.
